Rules
- 1. GAME OVERVIEW
Octa Carrom is a modified version of traditional carrom designed for eight players competing simultaneously on a single board. The game emphasizes strategy, coordination, and fairness among four teams.
- 2. TEAMS & PLAYERS
- Total players on board: 8
- Total teams: 4
- Each team must consist of 2 players
- Each team is assigned one unique cookie colour (decided by the organizing committee)
- All four teams play simultaneously on the same board
- 3. BOARD SETUP & ARRANGEMENT
- The red queen is placed at the exact centre of the board.
- Inner Ring:
- 8 cookies placed in an octagonal pattern around the queen
- 2 cookies from each team, arranged alternately
- 4. TOSS & TURN ORDER
- A toss is conducted before the game.
- The toss winner takes the first break.
- Turns proceed in a clockwise direction.
- A player continues their turn as long as they legally pocket a cookie.
- 5. BREAK RULE
- The first shot must be taken from the player's designated side.
- Normal striker rules apply during the break.
- 6. STRIKER RULES
- The striker must be placed within the baseline area and be flicked, not pushed
- Players must remain seated while playing
- No body part (except the playing hand) into another quadrant of the board
- Leaving the chair or crossing into another quadrant results in a foul
- 7. POCKETING RULES
- Players may pocket only their own team's colour cookies.
- Cookies may be pocketed into any of the 8 pockets (NO DIRECT BASE)
- Pocketing an opponent's cookie will not be returned.
- 8. QUEEN RULE
- A player must pocket at least one own cookie before attempting the queen.
- The queen can be pocketed only if at least one own cookie remains on the board.
- After pocketing the queen, the player must pocket one own cookie as cover.
- If the cover is successful, the queen is considered cleared.
- If the cover fails: the queen is returned to the centre and the player's turn ends
- 9. FOULS & PENALTIES
- A foul occurs if: the striker is pocketed, a wrong-colour cookie is pocketed, or a player violates striker placement or body movement rules
- Penalty: one cookie of the offending team is placed at the centre; if no cookie is available, loss of turn only
- 10. WINNING CRITERIA
- The first team to pocket all six of its cookies and legally clear the queen wins the match.
- 11. TIE-BREAK RULE
- If two teams finish in the same round: a sudden-death shot is given to each tied team
- The team that pockets a cookie first wins
- If still tied, the umpire's decision is final
- 12. TIME LIMIT
- Maximum match duration: 15 minutes
- If time expires: the team with the least remaining cookies wins
- If still tied, sudden-death rules apply
- 13. OFFICIAL AUTHORITY
- The umpire/co-ordinator's decision is final and binding
- No protests will be entertained after the decision
